The Summit will take place on October 27 under Russia's chairmanship and will bring together leaders of states, as well as high-ranking representatives of natural gas producing and exporting countries. The operator of the events is the Roscongress Foundation.

The upcoming 8th GECF Summit in Moscow is a crucial venue for dialogue and joint analysis of current industry trends, identifying areas for further cooperation and uncovering new development opportunities. Russia highly values partnership within the Gas Exporting Countries Forum. Our country advocates coordinated work by market participants to uphold internationally the justified interests of gas exporters, counter unilateral economic restrictions and strengthen the position of natural gas in global energy. Natural gas remains a sought-after resource due to its affordability, reliability, broad applicability and relatively low environmental impact. Today's working meetings at the Executive Board level have already begun and are an important and integral part of the preparatory stage for the Summit

The programme opened with an extraordinary meeting of the GECF Executive Board, at which representatives of member countries finalised preparations for the upcoming 28th GECF Ministerial Meeting to be held on October 26, 2026, under the chairmanship of Ekperikpe Ekpo, Minister of State for Petroleum Resources (Gas) of the Federal Republic of Nigeria. The discussion will involve ministers and heads of delegations of GECF member countries, as well as representatives of observer states. Following the meeting, Minister of Energy of the Russian Federation Sergey Tsivilev will make a statement.

The focus will be on strategic priorities for international cooperation in the gas sector, trends in global energy market development, energy security and investment attraction. It is planned to pay special attention to the long‑term role of natural gas in ensuring sustainable development.

The central event of the three-day programme will be the 8th Summit of the Heads of State and Government of the Gas Exporting Countries Forum member countries on October 27. Participants will address current challenges faced by the global gas industry and prospects for its further development. The Summit agenda will include strengthening energy security, maintaining stability of the global gas market, stimulating long-term investment and developing technological cooperation. A special place will be given to discussion of the sovereign rights of states to their natural gas reserves.
