Russian Energy Minister Sergey Tsivilev held a working meeting with the Secretary General of Gas Exporting Countries Forum Philip Mshelbila. The parties discussed key Russian initiatives within the GECF, preparations for the 8th Summit of the organisation in Moscow, and cooperation in the field of industry standards, the Russian Ministry's press service reported.

Russia attaches great importance to its work within the GECF – the leading intergovernmental organisation for promoting natural gas in global markets. Particular attention was paid to preparations for the 8th GECF Summit, which will take place in Moscow on October 27, 2026. The draft Summit Declaration focuses on practical tools for creating new gas markets – particularly in Africa. These include targeted financing, small‑scale LNG, AI for demand forecasting, and educational programmes for youth and women.

Tsivilev emphasized the importance of scientific and analytical cooperation and supported the work of the Gas Research Institute in Algeria. According to him, the institute should become a base for objective analytics and technology transfer. Furthermore, Russia has already achieved mutual recognition of industry standards with Algeria and the United Arab Emirates.

At the end of the meeting, the Minister invited the GECF Secretary General to take part in the Russian Energy Week forum, scheduled for October 14–16, 2026.
